Recent Cases

  • In March 2006, TMIS reported to Police and assisted in the execution of a search warrant which led to the seizure of 3,500 handbags, wallets and luxury accessories at Guildford in NSW. Two people were charged with 15 offences each for trademark fraud. They were convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. The sentences were suspended and the goods were destroyed.

  • In November 2006, 4 raids were conducted by NSW Police in Sydney based on a TMIS complaint. Over 3,000 counterfeit items were seized across 15 brands. The proprietor of the business has been charged.

  • In July 2008, a stallholder at Fairfield Market was charged after TMIS investigated and complained. He was convicted on 3 counts and fined $5,000.

  • In October 2008, a man was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for warehousing and selling over 5,000 garments and fashion accessories at Roselands in NSW.

Civil Litigation

  • In December 1998, TMIS investigated the intended illegal importation of a large quantity of a major software company's products. The resultant Customs seizure landed AUD$290,000 in value of counterfeit goods seized. Litigation ensued.
